For nearly 7 years I led the brand creative team on the Scheels account. We helped this chain become a category killer in 28 markets across 13 states not by repeating ‘expertise’ and ‘lowest price’ messages like everyone else. But by connecting to the heart and appealing to why we all love sports: They’re fun. They keep us healthy in body and mind. They give us experiences, bring us together and create memories. The fun kind.
This spot hit close to home for me so to speak – I actually wrote it from the perspective of the kid. My mom was the one at every game, year in and year out, always sitting down the line with my snacks, a bit of advice and sun-burnt knees. Thanks mom.
This one is for all those who bring the Christmas spirit to life and make it about what you can do for others. That selflessness deserves a little credit – especially because that’s not why they do it. So here’s to the givers.
There’s an empowering experience to running that isn’t always just about exercise for the body. Shot over the course of a year our runner braved seasons and elements to complete the spot. I chipped in with script writing and time in the studio with the composer to create the music track.
Not every project has the budget for original music. But you don’t need it when you find a piece that feels like it was written for the images and drives the vibe.
Scheels stood proudly by our Veterans, and it was an honor to write spots like these over the nearly 7 years I worked on the account.
